Sporting history was made in London on Tuesday when 1983 World Darts Champion Keith Deller threw a 301 in just 25 seconds.

The new world record was set not at the Olympics but during the trade fair bit of the Campaign for Real Ale's (CAMRA) Great British Beer Festival (GBBF) in London.

Ipswich-born Keith Deller was up against erstwhile record holder Dean Gould, who holds a total of 36 different world records, and five-times World Champion Eric Bristow, who is noted for being a crafty Cockney.

Each competitor was given five attempts to beat the record, which included having to sprint from the oche to the board to retrieve their arrows and then throw again.

According to a report on the GBBF website, "the competition got off to a slow start, with Deller, Bristow and Gould all struggling to get close" to the 36-second record set by Gould back in 1996.

However, on his final attempt, Gould managed to shave a whole three seconds off his record, only for Deller to then trump out a Bullseye finish and snatch victory.

"Over the last 10 years real traditional games that are played in pubs and clubs [have been] dying out, so both Eric and I really appreciate what CAMRA are trying to do to keep our great indoor games going which make our country great," Deller was quoted in an earlier CAMRA/GBBF press release as saying.

FLIPPING BEER MATS
It is understood that Gould, who CAMRA describes as "a man who has smashed pub games records left, right and centre for years", was also looking to break his own records for 180° and 360° beer mat flipping.

These he set in 2002 and 2011 when he flipped 208 and 23 beer mats, respectively.

However, it is not yet clear how Gould fared.

If you haven't got a clue what all that means, here's Gould in action back in 2010 courtesy of Roland Ellison's YouTube channel.

Get on!
