Brains has walked away from this year's Publican Awards with two gongs while John Longden has been honoured for his Pub is the Hub work.

Welsh brewer and pub company Brains has landed gongs for its food and pub management at this year's Publican Awards in London.

Staged at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane this past Tuesday (12/3/13), the event also saw Everards, Amber Taverns, Shepherd Neame and Stonegate among others pocketing pint-related prizes from Steve Coogan's mate Rob Brydon.

Meanwhile, John Longden scooped the Outstanding Industry Achievement award for, in the words of a statement on the Award's website, "his decade of work as chief executive of Pub is the Hub, the not-for-profit organisation dedicated to offering advice and support to licensees, rural pubs and community services".

"The Publican Awards judging is an extensive and rigorous process which really puts businesses under scrutiny," says Rob Willock, group editor of the Publican's Morning Advertiser (PMA), which runs the bash.

"In these challenging trading times it is fantastic to see our award winners continuing to grow their businesses and bring innovations to their customers."

"All our winners are driving their businesses forward with energy and passion."

"Congratulations to them all."

Commenting on John Longden's gong, Willock apparently stated: "Congratulations to John on this well-deserved award."

"Pub is the Hub certainly comes under the umbrella of all that is good about the pub industry."

"It exists to help pubs help themselves by helping their local communities."

"It brings people together through their local pub to achieve common goals."

"It provides much-needed advice for those licensees who have a real need to diversify their offering."

"And it protects communities from the loss of essential and life-enhancing services."

According to the Awards website, "the rigorous judging process included scores of headquarter site visits by senior members of the PMA's editorial team, mystery site visits to finalists' outlets conducted by Hospitality Gem and research interviews across two categories by market researchers him!."

The final stage of the judging, it continues, "involved a full day of panel interviews, where senior representatives from finalist companies were quizzed by a team of industry experts, City analysts, journalists and industry body chiefs".
