Megatoad's soggy success

YouTube is awash with competitive eating challenges. However, few compare to Matt 'Megatoad' Stonie's latest video, the 20 Soggy Hot Dog Bun Challenge.

Like other normal people, we at the Rake &Herald love to watch sport eaters shoving as much grub down their gobs as fast as humanly possible.

Among countless feats of superhuman gurgitation, we've watched Furious Pete and Naader Reda polish off ginormous steaks; ReactionResponseKING stick a ladle of cayenne pepper in his trap; and even All-American hero LA Beast prepare, cook and then wolf down a heart attack on a stick.

However, Megatoad's latest upload, while sounding relatively benign, is actually one of the more stomach-churning to watch: the rapid guzzling of 20 very soggy hot dog buns.

But for anyone interested in competitive eating, this is a must-watch video.

"A lot of people find that the hardest part of a hot dog-eating contest is eating the soggy bun dunked in water," Megatoad explains in prelude to the challenge.

"Today I'm going to step it up a notch..."

And this he certainly does.

"With Megatoad holding the number six spot in the Major League Eating rankings, pretty much anything he does is well worth a butcher's," says Rake & Herald fashion editor and self-appointed competitive eating pundit Kok Wang.

"Admittedly, a load of soggy buns doesn't sound that dramatic."

"Not when you regularly watch people ramming burgers the size of settees down their norths or chewing a load of Naga Bhut Jolokia chilli for a laugh."

"But the thing is, this is clearly quite a tough task to perform."

"Megatoad's a top-tier pro but even I thought he was going to reverse."

"Like a true hero, of course, he didn't and went on to scoff all 20 soggy buns in just three minutes and 35 seconds."

"What a star!"

Megatoad's thoughts on the challenge?

"[Expletive] gross."

WARNING! Competitive eating can be dangerous. As well as choking hazards there is also the possibility of poisoning yourself, something that could lead to hospitalisation, permanent health damage and even death. Don't believe us? Read this. Consequently, the Rake & Herald does not recommend you try emulating the above video(s) yourself. Seriously. We are NOT joking. You have been warned.
