Homebrew Con marks the big four-oh in Portland this coming June.

As a nipper, I used to brew my own booze to circumnavigate the UK's draconian under-age drinking laws.

Now, for legal reasons, I'm not advocating anyone else does this.

However, if you enjoy making beer, cider or mead in the comfort of your own home and you happen to find yourself Stateside this coming June 28-30, then I do advocate you check out Homebrew Con, aka the National Homebrewers Conference, at the Oregon Convention Center in Rose City, Portland.

LIFE BEGINS AT 40
Organised by the American Homebrewers Association (AHA) and the celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, the event, so the AHA informs the Rake & Herald via email, "is the ultimate experience for anyone interested in homebrewing and understanding beer, mead and cider".

"This fun, educational gathering," it notes, "pays tribute to the craft of homebrewing and unites all levels of homebrewing aficionados to expand their brewing skills and knowledge while embracing the community's camaraderie and spirit."

As such, Homebrew Con "features interactive sessions, workshops and demonstrations that cater to beer enthusiasts and amateur brewers" alike.

Moreover, proceedings will culminate with the National Homebrew Competition, "the world's largest beer competition, which recognises the most outstanding homebrewed beer, mead and cider produced by amateur brewers worldwide".

STAND OUT FROM THE CROWD
In total, the AHA expects around 3,000 attendees at the year's bash, all of whom "will have the opportunity to hear from over 90 presenters, including keynote speaker Charlie Papazian, who founded the AHA 40 years ago and is widely regarded as the 'godfather of homebrewing'".

And with all those homebrewers and luminaries in attendance, you'll be wanting to look your best while simultaneously standing out from the crowd.

But how on Earth are you going to do that?

Easy.

Just head over to our fantastic Rake Clag shop and order yourself a top-notch pukka T-shirt or two.

There's over 100 unique Dadaistic designs to choose from, including numerous booze- and food-themed threads, such as the glorious Get Yer Brew On pictured above.

And with prices starting from as little as $12.95 (£9.04) for a Classic Tee, you'd be certifiably mental not to.

Go on.

You know you want to.
