FANTASTIC VIEWING
As far as we know there were no reversals of fortune, viz a chunder, in either event, with all competitors finishing the course like true heroes or heroines.

Sadly, being the other side of the pond, we were unable to clock either contest live.

However, thanks to the miracle of the interweb, we have now been able to watch the Men's Championship and catch the very end of the Women's on a certain video-sharing site that we shan't name just in case it's not totally legit.

We can confirm from what we saw, though, that yesterday's performances were truly legendary.

We were particularly impressed by the ability shown by Tim 'Eater X' Janus, Patrick 'Deep Dish' Bertoletti and Matt 'Megatoad' Stonie to keep pretty much level-pegging with Joey 'Jaws' Chestnut until around the halfway mark.

At this point Jaws began pulling away, "eating through the pain" until after about 7.5 minutes he led the field by 54 dogs and buns to 42 for Eater X and Deep Dish and 40 for Megatoad.

Jaws then somehow managed to down something like four dogs and buns in the final 20 seconds.

FLIPPING HERO
"What a flipping hero," says Rake & Herald chief hack Ignatius Rake.

"I'm still in shock from watching that."

"I'm lost for words," adds Rake & Herald eternal editor AC89, lost for words.

"Well, I'm not," chips in rent-a-gob fashion editor Kok Wang.

"First of all, as fashion editor I feel it my duty to congratulate Deep Dish on taking to the stage not only sporting his trademark Travis Bickle Mohican, but also wearing a pair of Stars-and-Stripes briefs or Speedos or whatever you call Y-fronts these days."

"Good job he didn't get a bonk on because with all those dogs and buns flying around things could have gotten well messy and a bit triple-X, if you know what I mean."

"Secondly, and on the subject of Xs, fair play to Eater X, who did us all proud with a truly heroic second place."

"But why he didn't just do a huge great belch and literally blow away all the competition, I'll never know."

"I could've been quids in."

"Now I'll have to hock all that hooky Tom after all."

CRIF DOG KOBI RECOUNT
Meanwhile, over at the Crif Dog Classic held at Roberta's in Bushwick, Brooklyn, Japanese living legend Takeru 'Kobi' Kobayashi succeeded in knocking back a total of 58.5 dogs and buns with no reversal, 10 fewer than the 68.5 previously reported on the tickers (which we have now changed).

According to RecordSetter, the error arose because somebody or other "miscounted the plates".

Full uncut and legit footage of the 2012 Crif Dog Classic can be seen here.

"Congratulations to all the eaters who took part in each one of yesterday's competitions," says a still gibbering Rake bloke.

"I can down a pint pretty quickly but what these gurgitators do is amazing."

"Think about it."

"It's absolutely superhuman."

"Imagine being at a buffet with these people!"
